Jaffna MP needs Rs. 92K worth fuel for one trip to Parliament!
A group of MPs from Jaffna district have complained to the Speaker that they have to spend around Rs. 92,000 as fuel costs for a round trip between Jaffna and Colombo to attend parliamentary sittings.
The Speaker has been informed that a MP from Ampara has to spend Rs. 66,000 on fuel for one round trip.
Likewise, an MP from Badulla and Matara will have to spend Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 54,000 respectively.
Pointing out that they are unable to cover this with their fuel allowance, they have urged the Speaker for a solution.
The MPs have pointed out that although their fuel allowance is still at Rs. 111/ per litre of diesel, the allowance of parliament officials are paid according to current market prices.
