Food Safety officials seize 1,000 kg of plastic from Saravana Bhavan hotel

In all, 1,000 kg of plastic has been seized from a leading restaurant in Vadapalani.

Early reports state that Food Safety officials raided the Saravana Bhavan restaurant in Vadapalani and seized 1,000 kg of banned plastic bags this morning.

The plastic ban came into effect in Tamilnadu with the dawn of the New Year in 2019. But many restaurants and roadside shops continued to dispense plastic carrybags.

It must also be stated that many other restaurants and shops had switched to alternative packing material.

The raid and seizure this morning in Saravan Bhavan shocked the public as it was a leading restaurant and had flouted the ban with impunity.
