Sports Minister meets with Mathews & Malinga
Minister of Sports Harin Fernando has met with former skipper Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga to discuss the on-going situation within the national cricket setup.
The national team has endured a horrific run of form in recent months while off-the-field, players were involved in spats on social media.
Following several social media exchanges by various parties, all-rounder Thisara Perera raised concerns with the Minister of Sports regarding the captaincy of the national ODI team.
He also addressed a letter to SLC CEO Ashley De Silva, raising concerns pertaining on-going issues within the national team. Thisara Perera also urged Sri Lanka Cricket to intervene in matters concerning national players after describing the team as “a laughing stock to the whole country” due to exchanges unfolding on social media.
Meanwhile, following his appointment as the new Sports Minister, Harin Fernando has assured to resolve all matters after holding discussions with all players.
On twitter, Minister Fernando today said he met with Malinga and Mathews to discuss with them about the current situation of the cricket team.
Sports Minister Harin Fernando said he is hoping to meet other players in the near future. The national team is currently in Australia taking on the hosts on a two-match Test series.
