An incident of an upcountry leopard falling through the roof into a bedroom is reported from the Logie estate in the Lindula area.
According to the police, the leopard had been chasing a dog for prey when the roof had collapsed under the creature, causing it to fall into the bedroom.
The panicked family had run out of the house to save their lives, police say.
Later, Veterinarian Akalanka Pinideniya from the Randenigala Veterinary Hospital had arrived at the site and managed to sedate the bewildered leopard that had been stuck inside the home for nearly 16 hours, reports say.
The sedated leopard was taken away safely and is to be released into the wild later, Nuwara Eliya wildlife officials say.
