Woman accidentally shot dead by police during robbery

A 29-year-old woman was shot dead in a shooting by police at Danowita in Gampaha this morning 

Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the the woman who was travelling in a bus from Galenbindunuwewa to Colombo was shot dead accidentally during a shooting by police during a robbery.

He said police had opened fire at a group of suspects who came to rob a bar in Danowita town.

The suspects fled amidst the shooting. However the suspects who were  injured in the shooting were arrested by the police along with a van they arrived in for the robbery. They are undergoing treatment under police security.

The spokesman said the woman who was in the back seat of the bus was injured and died after being admitted to the Wathupitiwala Hospital
