'Harak Kata' freed by Dubai Police? Is there any Srilankan powerful hand behind his release ?

Drug trafficker Nadun Chinthaka alias "Harak Kata" who was in Dubai Police custody has been released on the day before yesterday, information received by the Police Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence said.

Though the release of 'Harak Kata' has not been officially confirmed by the Dubai authorities, media has reported that he had been released based on information received by international informants.

Meanwhile, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has ordered yesterday (4) to appoint a special committee to find out about the government officials behind the delay in sending the files needed to bring "Harak Kata" to Sri Lanka from Dubai, for over five days.

The Extradition Law Bill to bring notorious underworld figures from Dubai including 'Harak Kata' to Sri Lanka under the Extradition Law was scheduled to be submitted to Parliament today (05) under the instructions of the President.

On August 11, Harak Kata was arrested at the Dubai Airport while attempting to go abroad with a fake passport under the name 'Roshan Isanka'.

Accordingly, the Dubai Police informed Sri Lanka on August 18 through the Interpol that he was arrested and to send the necessary files to send him back to Sri Lanka before September 18.

Accordingly, the Police Department sent a preliminary report to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Ministry of Defence as per the instructions of the Attorney General's Department. The responsible departments had failed to provide the necessary files for nearly five days due to the issues including the non-passing of the Extradition Act in the Parliament.

Against this backdrop, the President ordered the appointment of a special committee yesterday (04).

The intelligence agencies have received information that international drug traffickers and Sri Lankan drug traffickers in Dubai have spent around Rs.1,000 million to prevent 'Harak Kata' from being sent to Sri Lanka.

It has also been revealed that a panel of local and foreign lawyers has also joined in this endeavour.
