Norwegian diplomat and former politician Erik Solheim is said to visit Sri Lanka on the invitation of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, reports say.

It is said that the objective of the visit is to find out how to contribute to rebuilding Sri Lanka's shattered economy.

In 2000, Solheim was appointed by the then government as an foreign affairs adviser.

He also played an active role as a facilitator in 2002 during peace talks between the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE.

He is currently the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme.
