An inmate who had disappeared from the Welikada Prison last month was found at the Colombo Remand prison after being remanded over another offense.

Prison spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the suspect was admitted to the Welikada Prison on September 16 and had escaped from the prison on the same day.

While the investigations and inquiries are being carried out regarding the disappearance, the Kaduwela Magistrate Court remanded the above missing prisoner to Colombo remand prison as a suspect on the charges of possession of heroin on September 30.

The prison officials obtained a statement from the suspect after identifying him as the missing prisoner from the Welikada prison.

Accordingly, he informed that he escaped by jumping over the walls of the prison.

He reportedly revealed to officials how he had escaped on very first day of his detention, in a sophisticated manner without any effort.

The investigating officers have found that this escaped prisoner is good at climbing coconut trees as well as dancing in a dance group.

Charges regarding the escaped prisoner is to be presented to the Prison Tribunal, the spokesman said.
