Man arrested for defrauding millions of rupees via social media

A 30-year-old resident from Himbutana, Angoda who defrauded more than Rs.10 million via social media platforms has been arrested by the Illegal Assets Investigation Division, police said.

The suspect has deceived victims and gotten them to deposit funds amounting to Rs. 11,627,175 into his bank accounts through social media saying that they will be given prizes.

The arrested suspect is to be produced in the Colombo Magistrate's Court today (12) and the Illegal Assets Investigation Division is conducting further investigations.
