Activists protest outside TID demanding to abolish PTA, and release detainees
The Inter-University Student's Federation, Civil Groups and other factions protested opposite the Terrorist Investigations Division in Colombo on Tuesday (15) evening.
They demanded the immediate release of student activists detained under the controversial Prevention of Terrorism Act.
A heavy police presence was witnessed around the Terrorist Investigations Division in Colombo on Tuesday (15) and it included riot police and water cannons.
This was ahead of the protest by the Inter-University Student's Federation, Civil Groups and other factions.
The protesters alleged that attempts are being made to detain for a further 90-days, the already detained student activists.
Lahiru Weerasekera is the National Organizer for Youth For Change and he said "If the detention order is extended, Ranil Rajapaksa will be able to understand people's power"
As portable loudspeakers were used, Sri Lanka Police intervened and said it cannot be allowed.
