8 kg of gold jewellery, worth Rs 2.50 cr, snatched from courier company staff
Coimbatore: A three-member motorcycle gang looted 8 kg of gold ornaments worth Rs 2.50 crore after attacking a parcel service employee going to send the consignment by air early Thursday, the police said.
According to the police, 26-year-old Prithvi Singh was going on a two-wheeler around 5.30 am to the city airport from the courier company at R S Puram, with the parcel containing the ornaments.
When he was nearing the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel College, three people who were tailgating him, on a motorcycle, waylaid him. The helmet-wearing men threw chilly powder on his face and attacked him with some weapons.
Then they snatched the parcel containing the jewellery, said the police.
Prithvi Singh, though injured, rushed to the Peelamedu police station and lodged a complaint. The police found a knife and footwear at the place where he was robbed and are using that as well as the CCTV footage in the area to crack the case and nab the accused.
They suspect this could be the handiwork of some people who had noticed the man going to the airport regularly with such consignments.
