Sehwag rubbishes reports of his contesting LS polls from Rohtak

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has dismissed rumours that he was going up against Member of Parliament Deepender Hooda in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections.

Sehwag said on Friday that such rumours had surfaced before 2014 general elections, and that he wasn’t interested in contesting elections then or now.

The former cricketer tweeted: “Some things never change, like this Rumour. Same in 2014, and no innovation even in Rumour in 2019. Not interested then, not interested now. #BaatKhatam #5YearChallenge”.

Sehwag tagged media reports from 2014 and 2019 that claimed the Bharatiya Janata Party could field him against Hooda.

Speculations are rife that Sehwag would contest the elections from Rohtak, where Hooda—son of former chief minister Bhupinder Hooda—is the sitting MP. Press reports have claimed that the BJP is very seriously considering pitting Sehwag against Hooda, a three-time MP from Rohtak who retained his seat in 2014 despite a “Modi wave” in the state. The reports said that Sehwag’s name came up in BJP’s recent discussions on possible candidates from the state. Among celebrities whose name came up were Sirsa’s singer Hans Raj Hans.
