Pet dog removed under police protection from a house accommodating murder suspect
A Chief Inspector (CI) of Bandaragama Police reportedly deployed a police constable to take away a pet dog from the home of a couple from Millaniya who had allegedly provided accommodation to a murder suspect who had escaped from police custody at the BIA recently.
Earlier, four policemen including the OIC of the Katunayake Police were arrested for letting out a suspect wanted over several murders who was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while attempting to fly overseas in spite of a travel ban imposed on him.
As soon as the suspect was arrested, the couple living at a house in Millaniya in Horana, who had given him accommodation, also disappeared from that house and only the pet dog of the house was left alone.
It was reported that a woman who had come to Bandaragama Police to meet the Chief Inspector of Police last week had sought his help to remove the pet dog from the house. Accordingly, The CI who is in charge of the administration had deployed a police constable to provide security until the dog is taken away.
A source said that the constable informed the senior officer that the concerned house was situated far away from the Police Station. However, the Chief Inspector did not listen to him and ordered the constable to provide security until the dog was taken away.
