Action to be taken against cops who entered Uni – Susil
Sri Lanka Police and the Ministry of Home Affairs were requested to take action against Police personnel who entered university premises during recently held protests, Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha informed the House yesterday.
The Education Minister was responding to a question raised by SJB MP Buddhika Pathirana on the Policemen and members of the Military entering the university premises.
MP Pathirana stressed that even students with special needs were attacked, while a security guard of the university was allegedly killed due to tear gas attacks. He said, that academic staff was also attacked. He asked what steps were being taken by the Ministry of Education regarding these issues.
Pathirana also urged the Education Minister to act as a mediator and get both, student union leaders and the Security Forces members to engage in smooth discussions and settle the matter before things get out of hands. We do not want to see history where student leaders and Security Forces clash like in the past, he added.
However, Premajayanatha said that the relevant parties have been informed regarding the issues and adequate steps will be taken to address the concerns of parties involved.
