Eggs imported from India sent for testing
The Department of Animal Production and Health said samples of imported eggs have been taken to be tested at laboratories.
Director Dr. Hemali Kothalawala said the tests are conducted to detect viruses, including bird flu.
The tests will be conducted at the Medical Research Institute in Borella and at the Veterinary Research Institute.
The reports are due to be released within four days.
Dr. Hemali Kothalawala said permission will be granted to release the stock of eggs to the market if there are no issues highlighted in the reports.
A stock of eggs imported from India as a solution to the egg shortage in Sri Lanka and the increasing prices of eggs arrived at the Colombo harbour on Thursday (23).
