Toddy tapper found dead on tree

A toddy tapper who climbed a Kithul tree had been found dead and his body was lowered by the police with the help of area people.

The deceased Ranasinghe Weerakkody (63) was a resident of Porogama in Pitigala. His relatives told police that he climbed the Kithul tree in front of the house and was found dead on the tree.

Police said he would have died of a heart attack but they would conduct further investigations to establish the cause of death.

The body was referred to JMO Elpitiya Hospital for postmortem
