Nine Ramadan fasting inmates escape from Badulla open prison; two apprehended

Nine inmates who were undergoing Ramadan fasting at the Thaldena Open Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Badulla escaped early this morning.

Prisons spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the officials at the open prison had apprehended two escapees.

The Prison Superintendent is conducting an investigation and a search operation has also been launched to find the remaining inmates, he said
