Rs. 860 Mn in Samurdhi funds used for new year celebrations

Samurdhi Trade Unions allege that Rs. 860 Million in Samurdhi Funds are being used for new year celebrations.

E. A. S. Edirisinghe, the Joint Secretary for the All Ceylon Samurdhi Managers' Union told reporters that while the Government & the Samurdhi is distributing 10 kg of rice to the poor, another Rs. 860 Million from the Samurdhi Funds are being used for new year celebrations. 

"We are against the wastage of money, at a time when the children cannot even afford a book. We are against political hype program. We are against wasting the money that belongs to the poor," he added.
