Two including Uni. student arrested with stock of forged currency in Palai

A student of the Jaffna University and a three-wheeler driver have been arrested in Palai while in possession of a large stock of counterfeit currency notes, the Police Media Division said.

The police have taken custody of 250 forged notes of Rs. 5,000 denomination and 27 forged notes of Rs. 500 denomination from the possession of the suspects.

The suspects were identified as a 24-year-old undergraduate residing in Puthukkudiyiruppu, and a 26-year-old three-wheeler driver from Mirusuvil.

The two youths were apprehended by the Palai police officers attached to the Elephant Pass checkpoint inspected the motorcycle they were travelling on from Jaffna to Kilinochchi after it raised suspicions.

The duo will be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department for onward investigations.
