6 nabbed for illegal fishing practices in Mullaitivu

Navy personnel have arrested 6 persons for engaging in illegal fishing practices in seas off Gurukanda, Mullaitivu yesterday.

A group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during a routine patrol, arrested the 6 for using unauthorized fishing nets.

The apprehended group has been identified as residents of Kalpitiya.A dinghy, an outboard motor and a 450m long fishing net were seized.

The 6 have been handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Mullaitivu for further action.
