More than 130000 people unvaccinated are over 60 years old.

The State Ministry of Home Affairs says that there are about 138,000 people over the age of 60 who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.

Its Secretary, N. H. M. Chithrananda said that this was reported during an investigation carried out at the Divisional Secretariat level.

The Secretary to the Ministry said that the search was carried out on the instructions of the Presidential Task Force for curbing COVID-19 on people over 60 years of age who have not been vaccinated.

The highest number of people over the age of 60 who have not been vaccinated is reported from the Kurunegala District, he said.

Accordingly, the Grama Niladharis have been instructed by the Divisional Secretaries to facilitate the immediate vaccination of those who have not been vaccinated, the Ministry Secretary added.

Meanwhile, 92% of people over the age of 60 in Colombo have been vaccinated, Colombo Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ruwan Wijeyamuni says.

He added that the remaining 8% will be vaccinated soon.
