Hand grenade found at Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya premises
A hand grenade has been recovered from within the Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya in Colombo.
Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the hand grenade had been found by an individual who had been cleaning the temple premises this morning.
Stating that the hand grenade was covered in dirt at the time of of its discovery, SSP Thalduwa said it is suspected that it may have been placed at the temple some time ago.
It is also suspected that the grenade must have been thrown into the temple premises from outside, he said.
The Police spokesman added that despite it being there for a long period, it still remains a live hand grenade.
