Gammanpila’s ministerial post lost! Semasinghe awarded post!
It is reported that several bigwigs of the SLPP and a group of parliamentarians have requested the Prime Minister and the President to remove the Minister of Energy Attorney-at-Law Udaya Gammanpila from his post.
The immediate reason for this request is to publicly criticize the agreement on the sale of shares in the Yugadanavi power plant to an American company and the decisions taken by the government while the Minister of Energy was in government and the role of SLPP Founder, Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
The immediate reason for this request was due to Gammanpila publicly criticizing the government on the Yugadanavi agreement with an American company and the decisions taken by the government, while holding a ministerial post in the government and also criticizing the SLPP founder, Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
The group had notified the PM and Minister Basil Rajapaksa that although the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya led by Udaya Gammanpila is a government affiliated party, since Udaya Gammanpila is the only Member of Parliament representing it, the government will not face a crisis even if he leaves the government. However, they had said that it is more damaging for the party when Gammanpila criticizes the government while being in it.
The President is currently overseas and is scheduled to return to Sri Lanka on the 4th and a final decision will be taken after his return.
