Revealed in court that Malwane house was built with Basil’s money
The case filed against Basil Rajapaksa and Thirukumar Nadesan in connection with the Malwana house was taken up again in the Gampaha High Court yesterday (01).
A witness in the case, Muditha Upali Jayakody told the court that the house in Malwana was built by a contractor with the money given by Basil Rajapaksa.
The witness told the court that he had handed over the money given to him to the contractor.
Jayakody was responding to cross-examination by the President's Counsel who appeared for the accused when the case was taken up in the Gampaha High Court.
The witness stated that the relevant receipts were obtained when the money was paid to the contractor and admitted that they were receipts from the company owned by him.
The case has been filed by theAttorney General against Basil Rajapaksa and Thirukumaran Nadesan under the Money Laundering Act for embezzling government funds by purchasing a 16 acre land in the Malwana area in Dompe and constructing a house and a swimming pool there.
Meanwhile, the media present at the court premises had questioned the Finance Minister regarding the upcoming budget.
