Complaint in Human Rights Commission against Kayts Police! Said they tore down the family card and threatened the family!!
A woman has complained in Jaffna Human Rights Commission office that Kayts policemen came to their house to make an inquiry about an incident happened in a funeral house and tore down their family card and threatened her and her daughters.
In regard to this incident the affected complainant stated that owing to an incident happened in a funeral house in Thambaddy village kayts policemen had come to our house and asked for my husband to make an inquiry about the incident.
The policemen of nearly 10 officers from Kayts police station asked our family card and as I handed over them our family card they tore it down into pieces and threw it away. Then they threatened me and my daughters in the house. They got our Identity cards and then family card. Then they tore down the family card into pieces and threw them away. They threatened us too. They entered into our house and checked our clothes and things threw them in random.
They got our hand phone forcibly and tried to check it. I am living with my four daughters and they snatched the photo copies of identity cards and the family card too. But they tore the family card and threatened us.
Following this she has made a complaint about this incident in Jaffna Human Rights Commission office in Jaffna.
