3 Northern islands to be handed over to the Adani group - Champika
Sri Lankan Opposition MP - Patali Champika Ranawaka has alleged that the government is planning to hand over three northern islands of the country to India’s Adani Group to construct a 500MW Wind and Solar energy plant.
“The Chairman of the CEB has written a letter to the Finance Secretary on Nov. 25th and the third line of this letter reads that Adani Group will be given the 500MW project from Mannar to Punakari,” he told reporters on Monday (06).
He also alleged the CEB had cast aside all the tenders that were presented for the wind and solar power project, and decided to grant it to Adani Group.
Meanwhile, the Chinese embassy in Sri Lanka tweeted last week that the Sino Soar Hybrid Technology, being suspended to build Hybrid Energy system in 3 northern islands due to 'security concern' from a third party, has inked a contract with Maldivian gov't on 29 Nov to establish solar power plants at 12 islands in the Maldives.
