Electricity issue: Update from CEB as unions launch protest

The power supply will not be disrupted in any part of the country from today, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced.

The CEB had scheduled daily ½ hour power cuts between 06.00 pm – 09.00 pm islandwide due to the breakdown at the Norochcholai Power Plant.

The CEB spokesperson said as two generators at the Norochcholai Power Plant had been added to the national grid, there will be no power cuts from today.

Meanwhile, employees of several CEB trade unions have refrained from work after applying for leave over several demands.

They have also planned to stage a protest march calling on the Government to fulfill their demands.
