Inferior quality petrol; Could ruin Japanese vehicles!

The Convener of the United Trade Union Confederation of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Ananda Palitha said that Octane 91 petrol has been brought to replace the 92 octane petrol and that it will not suit Japanese vehicles in the country.

In response, Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila said that only 92 Octane petrol was imported and that at no point was 91 Octane fuel imported to the country.

However, Ananda Palitha further said that the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) had publicly stated that 91 Octane petrol had been imported to the country, adding that although it is cheaper and suits the Indian vehicles, it is not suitable for Japanese vehicles.
