Railway fares for main & northern routes increased

Sri Lanka Railways states that the ticket prices for seats on the main and northern routes have been increased from today (24).

Its Deputy General Manager, V.S. Polwattage stated that the first class fare from Colombo Fort to Kurunegala on the Northern Road will be increased from Rs. 600 to Rs. 1000 , first class fare from Colombo Fort to Anuradhapura will be increased from Rs. 1200 to Rs. 1500 and first class fares from Fort to Kankesanthurai have been increased from Rs. 1400 to Rs. 1700.

In addition, the second and third class reserved seats on the Northern route has also been increased.

The first class fare from Colombo Fort to Kandy on the main road has been increased from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,200, the fare to Nanu Oya has been increased from Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 2,000, while the fare to Badulla has been increased to Rs. 2,500 from Rs. 1,500.

Accordingly, the second and third class fares to those destinations have also been increased.

Sri Lanka Railways stated that the fare of the Colombo-Kandy intercity express train has also been increased under the new regulations.

However, the general ticket price for trains has not been increased yet, however the Deputy General Manager of Railways stated that discussions are underway to increase those fares as well.
