FR filed against Colombo Roadblocks

A fundamental rights petition was filed with the Supreme Court seeking an order on the Inspector General of Police and other officials to remove permanent roadblocks set up in Colombo.

The petition was filed by Freelance Journalist Shenal Jayasekara and Environmentalist Hemantha Vithanage.

The petition also seeks a ruling that the construction of roadblocks violates the fundamental rights of the people, including their right to move freely, and assembly.

The respondents in the petition are the IGP, the Fort Police OIC, the Colpetty Police OIC, the Road Development Authority, the Human Rights Commission, and the Attorney General.
