Work on time, Magistrate slams CID

The Colombo Fort Magistrate slammed the Criminal Investigation Division yesterday (18) urging them to work on time.

The remarks had been made when the case against MPs Sanath Nishantha and Milan Jayathilake for attacking the Galle Face peaceful protest, was taken up yesterday (18) at 2.00pm.

The CID had requested to adjourn court until Deputy Solicitor General - Lakmini Hiriyagama, who was to appear on behalf of the Attorney General's Department, arrived.

An annoyed magistrate had stated," I cannot take up cases in this way... I will leave the court premises at 3.30pm. The day before, (17) I was also waiting until 4.00pm. But, the suspects were brought to my house in the night. Cases aren't taken up in the middle of the night at 10pm or so as the CID wishes. The CID should work on time."
