Lankans overseas have lost faith in Sri Lanka-Kiriella
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has called for the immediate resignation of the President and the government.
Addressing a media briefing today, Chief Opposition Whip Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella said Sri Lankans residing overseas have lost faith in the country.
MP Kiriella called for the appointment of an internationally recognized government.
The MP said if the President cannot fulfil promises made to the public, he must resign along with the government.
He charged the government of twisting democracy in their favour by demanding the opposition to provide solutions for the prevalent issues.
The MP noted the country’s finances were in a dire situation adding Sri Lanka faces a shortage of both rupees and dollars.
MP Kiriella said Sri Lanka has already obtained a loan of Rs.500 million for monthly usage while another loan is expected at the end of the month adding such measures were unsustainable.
Meanwhile, MP Lakshman Kiriella commenting on the 21st Amendment to the Constitution said the non-approval of the proposal by Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa on behalf of the ruling party by the Cabinet shows the lack of a unanimous decision regarding the amendment.
The MP said the Samagi Jana Balawegaya did not know why the Cabinet did not approve the draft.
