Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and businessman Thirukumar Nadesan have been acquitted over the case filed pertaining to a property in Malwana.

The two individuals were acquitted of the case by the Gampaha High Court today.

A case was filed against MP Basil Rajapaksa over the alleged misappropriation of state funds to purchase a plot of land and build a luxurious home in Malwana, Dompe.

In March, the Attorney General’s Department had informed the Gampaha High Court that no further evidence will be examined in the case filed against Rajapaksa.

The AG’s department said that since the first witness who testified had not lodged a complaint with the Financial Crimes Investigation Division that no further evidence will be examined over the case in the future.

The AG’s department also said the signature contained in the statement alleged to have been made by the first witness was problematic.

The lawyers appearing for Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Thirukumar Nadesan had then requested the court to release their clients.

Thereby, the court issued the verdict on the case today in which Basil Rajapaksa and Thirukumar Nadesan have been acquitted and released.
