Private bus services to reduce by 50% from tomorrow (6)
Bus unions say that private bus services will be reduced to 50% from tomorrow (6).
President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association, Gemunu Wijeratne stated that these steps will have to be taken in view of the current diesel shortage.
Meanwhile, the President of the Inter-Provincial Private Bus Association Sarath Vijitha Kumara states that the operation of long distance buses has been disrupted due to the fuel shortage, as the buses have to stay in queues for days at times to obtain fuel.
Moreover, the Ministry of Transport said that a program will be implemented to provide fuel for public transport services including passenger buses.
Its Secretary, R.W.R. Premasiri said that it had been decided to take the necessary steps to introduce a program after discussions with the Minister of Power and Energy.
