Protests against cost of living continue
A protest march was held in Kandy today (5) against the rising cost of living.
Accordingly, a motorcycle demonstration was held from Digana to Kandy this morning, with people protesting saying that they have become inconvenienced due to the rising cost of living.
Meanwhile, people have been queuing for kerosene, diesel and petrol at filling stations again.
People have been queuing for kerosene at the cooperative petrol station in Digana, Kandy since yesterday.
Our correspondent said that although kerosene was issued subject to a maximum of Rs. 500, it was not sufficient to supply all the people waiting in the long queue.
Moerover, long queues to purchase gas cylinders were also seen near gas dealerships in the country.
However, Litro Gas company has requested the public not to stay in queues for gas cylinders, until Wednesday (8).
Litro Gas stated that a shipment of 2,000 metric tons of gas is set to reach Sri Lanka tomorrow (6), and that shipment will be unloaded on Monday and Tuesday, after which, arrangements have been made to begin the distribution process from Wednesday (8).
