Special party leaders meeting today

A special meeting of the party leaders will take place under the patronage of Speaker of the House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena pertaining to the future political activities of the country.

The meeting will get underway at 2pm.

The appointment of a new President with the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the establishment of a new government will be discussed.

President Rajapaksa had informed the Speaker in writing of his intention to resign from the post on the 13th of July.

The Speaker of House will be appointed as the acting President while Parliament will convene this week or next in order to appoint a new President.
