Schools in Nuwara Eliya District closed today!

Taking the prevailing weather conditions into consideration, Central Province Governor Lawyer Lalith U Gamage had taken a decision to close all schools in the Nuwara Eliya District today (02).

Meanwhile, due to landslides, the trains running on the upland route have been further disrupted, according to the Department of Railways.

The Department of Railways also mentioned that the soil and stones that had fallen on to the railway track are currently being removed.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department said that the level of minor flooding in the low-lying areas of the Nilwala River Basin will continue.

Engineer SPC Sugeeshwara, Director of the Hydrology and Disaster Management Division of the department, said that there is no danger of the current flood situation in the Nilwala River Basin developing into a large-scale flood.

He further said that the flood situation in the upper areas of the Kaluganga River basin is decreasing.
