Main suspect in Tusker Barana’s killing, a Police Constable!
The Galkiriyagama Wildlife Office stated that the main suspect involved in the killing of the famous tusker known as Barana, which used to frequent the Namal Uyana National Park in the Kalawewa Reserve, is a Police Constable.
The Wildlife Office said that when they had gone to arrest the suspect to the Galkiriyagama Police Station where he works, he had escaped on the pretext of taking a phone call and when they had visited his home, he had not been there.
Despite the relevant authorities being notified regarding the suspect, so fat the Wildlife officers have not been able to arrest the suspect. He has also not surrendered to the police nor the courts.
When contacted, the SP in charge of the Anuradhapura Division Jayantha Pushpakumara said that orders have already been issued to the Kekirawa ASP to arrest the suspect PC.
The Wildlife officers had presented facts regarding the incident to the Courts and the Kekirawa District Attorney and Magistrate Saman Weraniya issued an order for the arrest of the suspect and a full investigation into the incident.
Wildlife officials said that Barana who died on the 26th due to burn injuries near the Namal Uyana National Reserve, was about 30 years old, nine feet tall and his tusks were four feet long.
