Three suspects nabbed with over 33 kg narcotics, Rs. 3Mn in cash in Peliyagoda

Three suspects were arrested with a large haul of dangerous drugs, namely one kilogram of cocaine, 24.5 kg of 'ash' and 8 kg of 'kush' during a raid in Peliyagoda this morning.

The Police also seized a jeep and a three-wheeler along with Rs. 3 million in cash.

The policemen attached to the Peliyagoda Police on duty near the State Engineering Corporation on the Peliyagoda- Negombo road noticed some goods were being loaded into a jeep and a three wheeler which were parked in the vicinity, caused some element of doubt.

When the officers approached the vehicles and checked, they found the drugs packed in three boxes and 4 luggage carriers in the jeep and the three wheeler.

Police said at the time of their arrest, they tried to offer a bribe of Rs. 3 million to the officer in charge of the scene.  However, the policemen had refused it and arrested the suspects along with narcotics, vehicles and cash.

The three suspects,, aged 33, 34 and 49 are from Wattala and Nattahandiya.

Peliyagoda Police and Police Narcotics Bureau are conducting further investigations.  (DSB)
