Woman arrested after 31 years for killing father, son

The Western Province South Crime Division has arrested a 64-year-old woman in connection with the murder of a father and son, which took place 31 years ago, police said.

After a prolonged investigation conducted by a team of policemen for killing a father and son who both lived at Navinna and Panadura in 1991, a suspect involved in the double homicide was arrested on September 29, 2022.

Then, the officers arrested another 55-year-old suspect, a resident of Wadduwa over the murder last Friday. Both the suspects were remanded after being produced in court.

The father (47) was killed in a house on Mendis Mawatha in Moratuwa and the son (21) near the Bolgoda River in Piliyandala.

Police said following further investigation, the female suspect, a resident of Piliyandala was arrested on Saturday. She was the wife of the first suspect who was arrested last month.

Investigation revealed that these killings were carried out in order to acquire the plot of  12 perches land along Mendis Mawatha, Moratuwa which was owned by the deceased.

The suspects were arrested following a complaint made by the wife of the second son of the deceased father, to the IGP.
