Cop in a soup for driving ex-dy minister Muthuhettigama’s illegally assembled jeep

A Police Constable has been arrested with illegally assembled jeep, by the Walana Anti-Corruption Squad, which suspected to be of former Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama.

A team of policemen checking a suspicious jeep in the Karapitiya area in Galle based on information received by the officers of the Walana anti-corruption unit that drugs were being taken in a jeep.

Police said no drugs or any other suspicious item was found in the jeep and further inspection revealed that the jeep was illegally assembled.

It was also disclosed that the jeep was owned by Nishantha Muthuhettigama and was illegally imported and assembled when the he was the Deputy Minister of Port and Shipping.

After a thorough checking, it came to light that the number plate of the vehicle was belonging to another vehicle.

The police arrested the driver of the jeep who is a 36-year-old policeman attached to Galle police station and a resident of Elpitiya.

The suspect was handed over to the Galle Police and he is scheduled to be produced before the Galle Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
