SLTB chairman hits back at Bandula

Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka said today that he has not been informed by the Transport Minister to resign from the chairmanship.

While writing a post on his official Facebook page, the SLTB chairman said that "No one has told me anything until now, and I still don't know anything as yet."

However, according to a ministry statement, Minister Bandula Gunawardena informed the SLTB Chairman of his intention to resign.

The statement said the minister took this decision in terms of the law since the chairman failed to exercise decisions taken by the Cabinet.

The Facebook post said that breaking news was announced last night on television that the "Transport Minister had told me to resign with immediate effect".  "As a citizen, when I work in an institution like this, I am bound to answer to the people of this country." If I am culpable enough to be fired, I am ready to apologize to the public and leave. If I were invited to have a conversation, I would tender an apology for all my transgressions to the general public," he said.

However, no one has told me anything until now.

Transport and Highways Minister Bandula Gunawardena informed Sri Lanka Transport Board Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka to resign from office, a communiqué from the ministry said.
