Gold worth Rs. 80mn stolen from Hulftsdorp court

The Keselwatta Police has launched an investigation after several pieces of gold weighing around 49 pounds worth Rs. 80 million was stolen from the case production room at the Hulftsdorp Magistrate's Court.

Police said the investigation was launched after the keeper of the case production room had complained to the Keselwatta police about the incident.

A gold piece weighing about 80 grams that was seized by the Maligawatta Police and 104 grams gold piece seized by the Borella police were reportedly among the stolen items.

Police said the disappearance of these two gold pieces were revealed when the owner of a gold bar related to one of the cases came to release it from custody following the order of the Magistrate.

It was reported that the gold pieces were removed from the room producing forged documents of the Magistrate by a person who pretended to be a police officer.

Sources said that the case will be handed over to the CID for further investigations and to identify the suspect.
