Double bed, mattress bought to President’s Office in Parliament: Buddhika Pathirana
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Buddhika Pathirana today questioned the alledged purchase of a double bed and a mattress for the President's office in Parliament and to conduct a probe on it.
"A private company had paid for this mattress. No one rests in President's office in the House. Therefore one wonders as to why a matress was brought into that office. Speaker must visit the office and see himself this. We will also accompany him," MP Pathirana said.
"The expenditure in connection with the swearing in ceremony of President Ranil Wickremesinghe was also borne by the same company. This is despite the claim made by the President that the expenses were met by him," the MP said.
"We have also been told that this company is to be given a 20 acre land in Hambantota," he said.
Chief Government Whip Prasanna Ratnatunga in his response said MPs should not waste time on least important matters.
"Let's talk about other important matters in this House," he said.
